10 Essentials Everyone Needs In Their Car

1.jpg

It's always a good idea to get your car in order.

Would you have what you needed if your car broke down? Or if you were stranded somewhere?

As a girl, or anyone, who does not know a lot about cars, being prepared in case of an emergency does not involve many tools.

Luckily, almost every car comes with handy tools needed for changing a tire, and yes, my car has these necessary instruments, but, I also like to keep other extra things in my car just in case.

There are some of us who keep absolutely nothing in our car trunks, while others have enough packed to live in their cars for weeks. Somewhere in between is this list of items I think every car owner should always have on hand.

Whether you’re a girl or a guy, the following items are essential in every car: Everyone has those days when things just don’t go right. I decided to prepare a list of things I think we women should have in our cars for different types of emergencies!

Check out my list of things you should have in your car - then knock on wood that you never need to use them.

1. Phone Charger

From calling for help to navigating to safety, your phone can get you out of most issues. You never know when you’ll need to recharge it though, so have a phone charger that lives in your car. You can purchase one that plugs into your cigarette lighter relatively cheaply.

2. First-aid Kit

It doesn’t have to be a full hospital in a bag, but it’s a good idea to have some plasters, paracetamol, antiseptic cream, and feminine hygiene products in your glove box. You never know when you might need to carry out some basic first aid while out on the road, whether it’s an accident you’ve been involved with or one you’ve witnessed. Make sure you’ve always got items such as bandages, gauze, tape, and disinfectant in the car.

3. Bottled Water & Snacks

You can choose from a wide variety of snacks to keep in your car and store as much as you would like but keeping food handy is a definite must. I always keep three or four protein bars handy, just to save space and they fill me up. Just remember that if you keep food in your emergency kit, you should make sure and check it every once in a while so that you can use the food before it goes to waste and replace it. If you get stuck somewhere and you’re unable to buy water, you’ll be glad you put some in the car (even though it will likely be warmer than you’d like). It could also come in handy if your engine overheats.

4. Tissues & Hand Sanitizer

It is always convenient to have extra tissues in case of spills or other accidents. I also keep hand sanitizer for after pumping gas or if my hands need to be cleaned. A dirty, sticky drivers wheel is a big no-no.

5. Spare Change

Having spare change in your car can come in handy for parking machines, buying necessities or if your wallet gets stolen. While you don’t want your life savings in your car (especially not on show), it’s good to have a little change in your glove box.

6. Jacket

This item is definitely not as necessary as other, but there may come a time where you would like to be a bit warmer in certain situations. Your car broke down, and it’s midnight. You’re cold, but you’re not worried because you always keep a jacket in your car. Or, you’re out with friends and all of a sudden the temperature drops ten degrees. You’re having fun, but you can’t enjoy yourself because you’re freezing. What do you do? Run to your car and grab your reliable jacket that’s always waiting for you in your trunk.

7. Breath Fresheners,
Smell Support & Feminine Products

More than likely, if you get into a situation where you are stuck in your car for a long period of time, you will not have to use those tampons you keep in the trunk but, in those emergency situations where that time of the month comes unexpectedly, having some feminine products handy can really help you or any of your girlfriends riding with you that may have that same girl emergency. Other small products to keep in your car can be breath freshener and deodorant. You never know when you may need some extra support from these items on the go.

8. Sunglasses

I have started to keep one cheap pair in my sunglasses holder in my car at all times because forgetting glasses and driving looking at the sun is always a drag.

9. List of Contact Numbers

You can’t always rely on your mobile phone. Just note down the critical numbers for both your insurance and breakdown companies on a piece of paper and keep it somewhere safe – perhaps in the glove box of the car. In this day and age, we rely on your phones so much that we don’t even know our close one's phone numbers. I recommend having the phone numbers of friends of parents.

10. Jumper Cables

If you suddenly discover your car battery is dead, having a set of jumper cables in your car will hopefully save you, providing a sympathetic driver stops to help, or you have someone to call who can come to your aid. Top tip: your car manual will include instructions for how to use the cables to jump start your car without causing problems to the electrics or injuring yourself.

I hope these items help you decide what necessities you think you need in your car! And remember to drive safely.

See you later! ☺︎
