How To Grow Your Hair FAST

Does it feel like your hair takes forever to grow? You're not alone.

While it’s no secret hair doesn’t grow overnight, there are certain things you can do to speed up the process!

Most hair grows no more than half an inch each month, aka an eternity once you've decided to grow out a pixie, bob, or lob. But that doesn't mean you can't speed up the process.

I’ve had long hair for pretty much all of my life. For about 4 years of my life I would cut off 10 inches, donate it and then grow out my hair again. Once I reached high school I stopped cutting multiple inches off because I felt like it made me look so much younger! Ever since then I have been maintaining long hair.

From ensuring your hair is healthy from roots to ends to nourishing it from the inside out and caring for it properly. There are a few things im going to share with you that will help grow your hair out faster!

For starters, make sure that you stick with a brush that doesn’t damage your hair’s outer cuticle. Hair brushes that are too damaging will leave strands that are vulnerable to breakage.

You should use a brush that is rounded, has plastic prongs and a cushioned base and avoid boar bristle brushes.

Also, never brush your hair from the roots as this can cause friction on the hair shaft and damage it: start at the ends and gradually work your way up.

Another key to healthy, fast growing hair is your diet. Hair craves nutrition, so a balanced diet filled with lots of nutrients will keep it healthy and happy.

If you want longer hair, stock up on any (or all) of the following powerful foods:

  •     Salmon

  •     Eggs

  •     Avocados

  •     Sweet potatoes

  •     Berries

  •     Nuts

  •     Olive oil

  •     Fish

  •     Beans

  •     Whole grains

  •     Foods rich in protein, biotin (vitamin H) and omega-3

The foods you eat should contain vitamins and minerals known to support healthy hair growth, such as vitamin C, biotin, niacin, iron and zinc.

Foods such as salmon are loaded with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as well as antioxidants which can reduce hair loss and increase hair density. Another plant based protein option is beans which provide other hair-healthy nutrients like iron, biotin, and folate.

If you're using heat tools every day - whether that be hot irons or the hair-dryer - try to cut down. I have completely stopped using hot tools and this has increased the health of my hair. Heat can weaken your hair so even just alternating or going an extra day without heat can dramatically improve the condition of your hair.

There are even masks and treatments, such as Olaplex, to help strengthen hair

Remember to take care of your scalp! After all that is where hair begins to grow from. Your scalp plays a huge role in hair growth, but it takes a beating on a daily basis such as harsh brushes and strong products.

Wash your hair regularly and don’t overwhelm the scalp with too much product or abrasive chemicals. In other words, keeping your scalp healthy is all about taking little steps such as using a sulfate-free shampoo, a filter to remove chlorine from your shower or making sure to thoroughly wash your hair.

Another tip to prevent breakage is by using a light hair towel to help hair dry faster. Wet hair is super fragile, so use a wet brush on it to avoid damage. If you must use heat, try to gently towel and air dry your hair until it's around 60% dry then use the hairdryer on a medium setting.

When it comes to wet hair, putting it up should be avoided at all costs. Wet hair is more prone to splitting than dry, the evidence of which will be on your hair bobble should you ever try it.

If you've worked your way through the list of hair-healthy foods and could still use a little help, you can always try some of these vitamins/supplements:

Tight ponytails and high buns might look nice, but they can cause serious damage to our hair health.

Bobbles grip the hair, causing friction which may lead to fraying and split ends - we've all pulled one out before to find it covered in our precious hair. Tying your hair up every once in a while is no big deal, but having the same updo every day will cause damage over time. I use large hair clips to keep my hair up!

Braids are another thing to do sparingly if you want to preserve your hair health - if done too tightly, they can physically pull the hair away from the roots and cause splitting, hair weakness and follicle damage.

Lastly, sleeping on a smooth surface reduces nighttime friction, which means less breakage (and bed head) in the morning. Use silk pillowcases instead of cotton.
