The list of health benefits that come from staying hydrated is endless. Hydration is important, but I often look for tastier drinks other than plain ole water.

By adding in fruit, you drink healthy and its tasteful. You even drink more water…. without even realizing!

From strawberry basil to kiwi cucumber, here are 10 fruit infused water recipes that go way beyond adding the common lemon wedge.

Why Fruit Infused Water?

Why not just drink juice or soda? Well for several good reasons:

Better Flavor.

I enjoy the flavor more of water infused with fruits over soda and juice. It tastes natural yet very refreshing. Sodas and juices are too sweet and sugary.

Less Sugar

I strongly believe that I feel better when I drink fruit infused water. I feel less sluggish and more hydrated (obviously). When I drink soda or juice I feel more full and not in a good way. Most fruit juice contains a lot of sugar. Even without added sugar, juice is a source of naturally occurring sugars and it is better to consume fruit whole so that you get the fiber, which helps slow down sugar absorption.

Hydration

Fruit-infused waters contain much of the flavor (or more) of fruit juices without the sugar, making it easier to drink more. Most people enjoy the taste of fruit waters, making them more likely to drink more water, which is defiantly true for me. Infusing water with fruits, herbs, and other plants helps you drink plenty of liquids without the downside of excess calories, sugars, and artificial flavorings.

STRAWBERRY, LEMON, AND BASIL

This fruit infused water is a step up from the typical lemon slice in water.

Simply slice a few strawberries and lemons.

Lastly, drop in a few torn up mint leaves.

Put this tasty water in a pitcher at your next party, or fill up a water bottle for the next time you hit the gym.

ORANGE AND BLUEBERRY

Don’t let the odd combo throw you — orange and blueberry are a phenomenal flavor pairing. Blueberries are one of the most potent sources of antioxidants on the market. They’re especially great to add to water because there is no preparation or cutting involved — all you need to do is open up the package, rinse them off, and drop them in! Pack up a bunch of oranges and blueberries for your next picnic and peel the orange instead of slicing for an easy, on-the-go assembly.

WATERMELON AND MINT

Not only does watermelon taste delicious, it has a lot of great health benefits including: it helps lower blood pressure, improved insulin response and alleviate muscle soreness.

You get a neat color effect with small green mint leaves mixed in. It ends up looking like a really fun drink, delicious and beautiful, too!

CITRUS AND CUCUMBER

This cooling detox drink will cool you down and help you look hot in your summer clothes! The slightly bitter taste of the cucumbers is perfectly balanced with the tangy sweetness of the citrus fruit.

This drink boasts liver cleansing and clear digestive tract in the vitamin C packed lemons and oranges (vitamin C also naturally increases metabolism!), along with breaking down body fat and toxins.

STRAWBERRY AND LIME

Lime water is one of my favorite homemade detox drinks. It is super simple and even better when other fruits are added in!

Strawberries contain chemical compounds called phenols, which increase the body's production of uric acid, which has antioxidant properties. You can never go wrong with the sweet and tangy taste of a strawberry.

CITRUS AND CILANTRO

For this recipe, you can add as many different types of citrus as you please. (Think: grapefruit, oranges, lemons and limes!)  The result is a gorgeous spectrum of color filling your glass to the brim. Oranges are packed full of Vitamin C which is known to increase metabolism and help tone up skin.

ROSEMARY AND GRAPEFRUIT

This recipe features delicious slices of antioxidant-rich grapefruit. This juicy fruit will give your flavored water just the kick it needs. Not only will grapefruit make your water taste both sweet and tart, it will also help flush out toxins and wastes from your cells. Snack on the slices while you hydrate and you’ll get a dose of immunity-boosting lycopene.

RASPBERRY, ROSE PETAL, AND VANILLA

Raspberries are one of the most versatile fruits around. They are tasty, easy to eat, and rich in fiber.

These qualities make raspberries the perfect fruit to add to any flavor of fruit-infused water. Rose petals and a bit of vanilla adds to the refreshing taste!

KIWI AND CUCUMBER AGUA FRESCA

This yummy treat packs a big punch and it offers plenty of health benefits. Kiwis are great sources of a cleansing enzyme called actinidin, which will give your skin a natural glow.

When it comes to detox water, cucumber water is the king of them all. Cucumbers contain a lot of healthy benefits, including vitamins, flavonoids, and other healthy compounds that fight inflammation, protect your brain health, and even freshens your breath!

WATERMELON COCONUT AGUA FRESCA

Watermelons are probably one of the more unusual suggestions we have for fruit water, but their health benefits and juicy taste make them a sure candidate.

Watermelons are absolutely delicious, and they’re loaded with vitamins.

Add coconuts with watermelon water and its much more delicious!
